Fish exports declined in September

Statistics of Maldives Customs Services shows a 37% decline in fish exports from the country in September 2020.

According to the stats, fish exports from the country in September 2020 saw a decline compared to the same period last year. Last year in September the country exported 20.46 Million dollars worth of goods from the country while only 12.92 Million dollars worth of goods were exported in September this year.

Fish is the major product exported from the country. Most fish exports in September from Maldives was made to England. 21% of total fish exports were made to England in September 2020. According to the statistics of customs, 1.75 Million Dollar worth of fish was exported to England in September.

Other countries with the highest export of fish include Germany, France, Italy and Greece. Customs statistics shows that in September Maldives exported 1.56 Million Dollar worth of fish to Germany, 1.43 Million Dollar worth of fish to France, 0.58 Million Dollar worth of fish to Italy and 0.52 Million Dollar worth of fish to Sri Lanka.

Type of fish with highest export numbers were skipjack tuna products. In this regard, 3.05 Million Dollar worth of skipjack tuna products were exported from the country during this period. During this period second most exported fish products were yellowfin tuna. This included 1.23 Million Dollar worth of sliced yellowfin tuna, 0.84 Millions Dollar worth of canned yellowfin tuna and 0.52 Million Dollar worth of whole frozen yellowfin tuna, according to customs.

In addition to exports, imports into the country also decreased during September, the customs stats showed. In September revenue made by the state through import-export decreased by 59 percent. 18.96 Million dollar worth of export-import were made in 2019 while 7.73 Million dollars were made in September this year through exports and imports.
